Unique combo of Magnesium, Magnolia Bark, and Melatonin. A potent natural solution to balance cortisol and support sleep.
A trace mineral that has been shown to promote restful sleep, ease anxiety and worry, and help you feel more alert and refreshed throughout your day!
A hormone that regulates sleep and wakefulness. When your body can’t produce enough melatonin on its own, getting a good night’s rest can be almost impossible!
Healers have used magnolia bark for hundreds of years to promote calmer thoughts and ease anxiety, helping people get to sleep much faster!
The Science:
Although rampant HPA axis dysfunction, high cortisol levels, and hormone imbalance make restorative sleep even more elusive, Sleep Savior combines powerful Eastern medicine botanicals with natural sleep hormones, and the mighty relaxation mineral, magnesium. These carefully formulated ingredients provide functional support for calming neurotransmitters, nervous system health, and normal sleep rhythm.
Magnesium (as Mg Amino Acid Chelate): Low levels of serum magnesium are associated with low quality sleep and insomnia, in addition to reduced melatonin secretion (1). While most magnesium is poorly absorbed in the digestive system, Sleep Savior’s amino acid chelate easily delivers magnesium to target cells across the gut wall and into the bloodstream via its protein carrier (2).
Subclinical magnesium deficiency, which could affect as many as 50% of individuals in the United States, is a driver for not only poor sleep, but chronic disease, blood sugar imbalance, and cardiovascular disease (3).
Magnesium is found in cells throughout the body, but is most heavily concentrated in the bones, muscles, and brain, and is responsible for more than 300 metabolic reactions within the body. Most notably, magnesium promotes calming of the central nervous system (CNS), muscle relaxation, and feelings of well-being (4)(5)
In one study over the course of 8 weeks, participants experienced increased sleep time as well as increased sleep efficiency after supplementing with magnesium (6).
Magnolia officinalis Bark Extract: For centuries, magnolia bark has been used in Eastern medicine as a calming remedy, with its main flavonoids, magnolol and honokiol, held responsible for many of its benefits, but this potent botanical also promotes the production of calming neurotransmitters and balanced hormone function conducive to restful sleep.
Magnolia bark and its unique flavonoids have been shown to support the production of melatonin precursor, serotonin, and calming neurotransmitter, GABA, which play a significant role in restorative sleep at the level of the brain (7)(8).
Magnolia bark also promotes better sleep by activating the body’s internal endocannabinoid system, which is the network of neurotransmitters responsible for dozens of mechanisms, including mood, relaxation, and quality sleep (9). In addition, research suggests magnolia bark plays a role in lowering adrenaline production, the hormone most known for stress and alertness (10).
In other studies, magnolia bark extract has been shown to support normal levels of inflammation, allowing for healthy neurotransmitter and hormone function for healthy sleep (11).
Melatonin: Naturally released from the pineal gland in response to darkness, or an absence of blue light, melatonin is produced from its precursor, serotonin, which is synthesized in the gut. Melatonin is the primary sleep hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles (circadian rhythm), and plays a role in overall brain health and function.
For various reasons, including stress, poor digestion, and the normal aging process, melatonin levels decrease, which has a profound negative impact on circadian rhythm and our ability to attain consistent sleep.
Melatonin supplementation has been shown to support a healthy and stable circadian rhythm, thereby improving restorative sleep, and allowing the brain to perform many of its waste removal and memory supportive functions (12).
Sleep itself facilitates the removal of toxic proteins and other unwanted particles via proper function of the “glymphatic” system, but melatonin has also been shown to have potent free-radical scavenging ability, modulating oxidative stress in the brain, and promoting overall brain health and longevity (13).
